The client

Sportano is a sports retailer selling more than 900 brands across 60 sports categories through its own e-commerce platform, with automated 24-hour shipping. Before this project, customers could only shop via the website.

The challenge

Without a native app, Sportano was missing impulse purchases and engagement on phones, and leaned heavily on desktop traffic. The new apps had to match every web feature while also showing the business how mobile UX could reshape its wider digital presence. The largest risk sat in integrations: several third-party and proprietary services depended on APIs owned by Sportano's own backend teams. The client also wanted to reduce long-term website maintenance costs.

The solution

01Discovery first

Netguru mapped competitor apps and user expectations before design began. Those findings shaped the UX, UI and technical architecture from day one.

02Designs tested with real users

Low- and high-fidelity designs were validated with Sportano and real shoppers. The result mirrors the website while adding modern mobile patterns.

03One modular React Native codebase

A modular architecture, a custom design system and prebuilt libraries sped up delivery for both app stores. Integration points were planned for payments, logistics and user accounts.

04Integrations delivered side by side

Payments, logistics and accounts were connected in close coordination with Sportano's engineers, with QA and stakeholders kept in the loop throughout.

The results

The cross-platform app launched on iOS and Android with feature parity to the web store and reached 5k downloads in its first week. It holds a 5.0 rating on the App Store. Every one of Sportano's 900+ brands across 60 categories is now reachable from the app, and the modular build gives the retailer a foundation for future e-commerce improvements.

“Our collaboration with Netguru was smooth and highly productive.”
